Pindarie 2022 Small Block Fiano
Pindarie 2022 Small Block Fiano
Grape Variety: 100% Fiano
Origin Country: Australia
Region of Production: Barossa Valley (Single Vineyard, Estate Grown).
Winemaking Notes:
The first batch of fruit was crushed and pressed, cold settled and fermented; the second, riper portion was whole-bunch pressed; more ‘grape solids’ were retained and fermented warmer. Such techniques ensure complexity and intrigue in the glass…The two batches were blended shortly after fermentation, and the wine promptly finished (winemaking speak for ‘tidied up’!) for bottling in late May.
Vineyard Report:
The ’22 vintage was the first harvest from our ‘Small Block’ Fiano. Finally, a reward for our efforts and patience! The vintage was cooler and, therefore, later than normal, but while mild, both summer and autumn were sunny and dry. It was a fabulous, stress-free, ‘kind’ season. Bring on more! The Fiano was handpicked and carefully sorted on-site over two picking occasions, spaced three weeks apart. The first pick gave us fresh acidity and lively fruit; the second (a smaller quantity of riper fruit) offered an extra note of complexity and generosity.
Picking Season: 1st and 26th March 2022
Alcohol: 12.5%
Sugar Residual: 1.9 g/l T.A.
(Acidity): 7.5 g/l
Tasting Note: Our new ‘alternative’ variety, Fiano, is the first release in our "Small Block" range. An exciting white hailing from the Italian coastal region of Campania in southern Italy and Sicily, known as 'The vine beloved of bees', it thrives in moderate to warm and dry climates. Our Western Ridge soils are ideal for this terrific newcomer.
Food Pairing: Calamari done any which way; Vegetable quesadilla; pan-fried Tommy ruff fillets; Thai green chicken curry. Options galore!
